We witnessed a great turnaround regarding Quebecois forward Anthony Mantha.
He went from a player whom the Montreal Canadiens could have been paid to acquire, to being on track to score 30 goals this season. That's no small feat!
«Anthony Mantha, the player the Washington Capitals seemed desperate to dump before the season started, is on pace to score 30 goals this season.»
We are really happy for him!
Some say the Canadiens should have taken advantage earlier, when his value was literally in the negative, but at the same time, these are not easy transactions to conclude at all.
«As has been regularly reported since the beginning of the season by David Pagnotta, Kent Hughes was working with the Capitals to bring Mantha to Montreal. However, nothing came of it.» - Via Keven Mawn
In short, the Canadiens would have received a draft pick + Mantha, in exchange for future considerations (like the Sean Monahan trade).
Anyway, the Caps did well to be patient with Mantha.
Mantha, 29 years old, is under contract until 2024 with a salary of $5.7 million. He has 10 goals and 15 points in 27 matches this season.
