Monster three-team trade proposal: Are the Penguins about to get rid of Jeff Petry and his contract?
When we talk about Kent Hughes' good moves, especially in the trade market, we often forget a trade that has become a real home run.
A trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Quebecois defenseman Mike Matheson and a fourth-round choice in 2023." Matheson had a solid first season in Montreal, producing at a rate of 60 points per 82 games.
As for Poehling, he was released by the Penguins.
Jeff Petry on his way out?
As you know, Pittsburgh is one of the two finalist teams to acquire the star defenseman of the San Jose Sharks, Erik Karlsson.
Now two sources have just confirmed that Jeff Petry could be "dumped" in this trade, simply to free up his substantial contract.
That's what Pittsburgh journalist Josh Yohe put forward, and now Max Miller, a journalist from San Jose, has just mentioned the exact same thing.
"In his article, Miller proposes a three-team trade that includes a significant redistribution of salaries.
According to this proposal, San Jose would receive Jeff Petry, with 35% of his salary being retained by Nashville, as well as Mikael Granlund, with 25% of his salary being retained by Pittsburgh.
In addition, San Jose would get Drew O'Connor (a restricted free agent) and the Penguins' first-round choice for the year 2025.
The Penguins, for their part, would receive Erik Karlsson, with the Sharks agreeing to retain half of his salary, or $5.75 million.
And the Preds in this transaction? They would receive Casey DeSmith, draft picks for the years 2024 and 2025, and part of Petry's salary." Stay tuned! This would be big, and there's a lot of chatter behind the scenes. Let's remember that Karlsson has, according to all likelihood, played his last game in San Jose according to several sources.
