Kent Hughes acquired forward Tanner Pearson and a 3rd round pick for 2025, in exchange for goalie Casey DeSmith. (who had been pretty much acquired for free from the Pittsburgh Penguins)
Pearson, 31 years old, already has 3 goals and 5 points in just 6 games with the Habs. He is (tied) as the team's top scorer, and is tied for second in total points earned this season.
He's playing very well and continues to increase his value, as he will become a free agent next summer.
As for DeSmith, he has won two games with the Canucks and has been solid, but his departure allowed the Canadiens to not place the young Cayden Primeau on the NHL waivers, which is another big win for Hughes.
The "early" verdict on this transaction is very positive for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
Imagine if they could get (in addition) another good young player or another good draft pick at the trade deadline, in exchange for Pearson.
If the veteran maintains his current performances, it will be possible and it would be a solid move for the organization!
And in your opinion, one month later, do you like this trade with Vancouver?
