Some experts suggest that Kent Hughes might be trying to buy some time. This is the opinion of Dany Dubé.
Commenting on Sean Monahan's return on the 98.5 Montreal radio station a few weeks ago, the Canadiens game analyst mentioned that the organization might be looking to eventually add a top-tier center player to the team.
🏒Sean Monahan, une signature qui défie le temps chez les Canadiens de Montréal.
,Mais qu'en est-il de Dubois? Dany Dubé doute des efforts des @CanadiensMTL pour le décrocher.

However, it should be noted that Dubé made this statement before Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.
That being said, the fact that Monahan signed only a one-season contract could make him attractive to other NHL teams at the trade deadline.
As we know, if it weren't for his injury suffered last December, Kent Hughes might have been able to fetch good trade value in return.
Could it be a deferred scenario for the Canadiens with Monahan for a potential trade?
Before his injury last year, number 91 had amassed 17 points in 25 games and was utilized on the power play, which could have showcased his skills in a certain sense. However, given his history of significant injuries, it's essential that he doesn't miss too much time again; otherwise, fans could find themselves in the same situation as last year.
On the other hand, he could indeed bring in a first-round pick.
