It's been a while since we heard about Montreal Canadiens' players who might possibly be traded, apart from, of course, the goaltender Casey DeSmith, but here's a new one.

Due to the surplus at defense at the Canadiens, the young defender Jordan Harris is being targeted by the other 31 NHL clubs.

According to Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels, Jordan Harris is indeed a player who could be traded by Kent Hughes, for reasons "out of his control".

Because of what he showed last season, and because Kaiden Guhle and Mike Matheson will always be ahead of him as left-handed defenders, some believe that we might witness another trade "à la Alexander Romanov" if the price is right.

He could have more value with other teams than with the Canadiens!

- Eric Engels, via Tony Marinaro's podcast

He explains that Harris evidently deserves a top-4 role in the NHL, and other teams might offer him that position, but not the Canadiens.

So maybe he will get that opportunity elsewhere.

He will be much better than some might have believed. He could certainly become a 'top 4' defender, but not necessarily with the Montreal Canadiens.

- Engels

Obviously, Kent Hughes has absolutely no reason to rush to trade Harris in the short term, but eventually, it might become inevitable (as he did with Alexander Romanov).

Do you agree with Engels?

Harris, 23, is signed until 2024 at 1.4 million dollars per season. He scored 17 points in 65 games last season with the Habs (a differential of -3).
