Waivers: last-minute announcement involving two players, including former Stanley Cup champ Nick Bonino
In the last few minutes, two players have been sent to the NHL waivers, including a name more familiar to hockey fans (notably those of the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins).
Nick Bonino on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination: he will be a free agent!
Bonino will thus be able to sign with the team of his choice.
"The Rangers have placed Nick Bonino on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract." - Chris Johnston
«The Rangers gave Nick Bonino the All-Star break to think after going through waivers. He decided he did not want to report to the AHL and asked the Rangers to terminate his contract.
The team, which has a lot of respect for him, honored this request." - Peter Baugh
And there you have it! This explains that.
Bonino, 35 years old, played 45 games with the Rangers this season. (62 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks last season - 20 points)
In his NHL career, he has 358 points in 868 games, in addition to 48 points in 105 playoff games.
He is a Stanley Cup champion.
A Jets player had to suffer from the arrival of Monahan via trade, and that player is Axel Jonsson-Fjallby. He has been claimed on NHL waivers several times in the past.
Will it be the case again this time?
Jonsson-Fjallby, 25 years old, has been claimed three times on waivers in recent years. He has 23 points (10 goals) in 99 career NHL games.
In the AHL, he has 43 points, including 22 goals, in his last 58 games played.
Details to follow.
