Following the trade completed between Kent Hughes and the Winnipeg Jets, a change has occurred.

With the elimination of the Colorado Avalanche and the Boston Bruins last night, there has been a change with the Winnipeg Jets' first-round pick, a pick held by the Montreal Canadiens via the Sean Monahan trade.

Last night was not good for Kent Hughes' draft position (regarding the second first-round pick).

Trade completed between the Canadiens and the Jets for Sean Monahan: a change is announced and the pick drops slightly

Mathis Therrien, from DLC, explained it well.

«Well, because with the wins of the Panthers and the Stars (both division champions), the Winnipeg Jets' first-round draft pick held by the Canadiens will not be as high as it could have been.»

While Kent Hughes was set to get the 24th overall pick, due to the wins of the Panthers and the Stars, this Jets' pick will finally be the 26th or 27th overall. (depending on the Edmonton-Vancouver series)

«The elimination of the Bruins and the Avalanche last night is not a good thing for the Canadiens' second first-round pick.

Here are the scenarios for the Jets' pick:

- Oilers in the third round: 26th pick
- Canucks in the third round: 27th pick» - Charles-Alexis Brisebois

The good news is that I don't think it affects the trade value of the Jets' pick that much, which will probably be traded anyway, but it certainly adds to the risk of losing THE coveted player, whether it be Sacha Boisvert, Cole Hutson, or someone else.

Looking forward to the 2024 draft and the trade season.
