A major trade is expected in CAR: Kent Hughes will be busy this summer
According to information from the renowned Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes will part ways with the excellent Martin Necas and Brett Pesce.
A few hours after Rod Brind'Amour's squad was eliminated, numerous sources, including the Sportsnet insider, suggested that the Hurricanes will likely focus on signing Jake Guentzel this summer and that they do not expect to re-sign Necas and Pesce.
Considering that Necas will be a restricted free agent (RFA) and eligible for arbitration, a trade is expected in his case.
Upcoming Martin Necas Trade: Kent Hughes and the Canadiens Will Definitely Be in the Mix
Necas's name has been linked to the Habs for quite some time, and his situation is very reminiscent of Kirby Dach's.
«Well well! Friedman believes that Martin Necas and the Hurricanes will have difficulty agreeing on the terms of a contract extension and therefore, he should be traded.» - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
The difference is that Necas has been much more productive than Dach was at the time of his trade by the Chicago Blackhawks.
«Additionally, forward Martin Nečas, a restricted free agent, could see his signing rights traded, which is good news for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens. Carolina might prefer to keep players like Jake Guentzel and Seth Jarvis, relegating Necas to the background.» - RDT Necas, 25, is a 12th overall pick (1st round) of the 2017 draft. He is a 6-foot-2 center who can play on the wing. He is truly excellent.
This season, he amassed 53 points in 77 games, including 24 goals, and he had collected 71 points in 82 games last season in Carolina.
During the 2024 playoffs, he was solid with 9 points, including 4 goals, in 11 games against the Islanders and the New York Rangers.
A name that will certainly be one to watch for Kent Hughes in the coming weeks.
