A new player is targeted in the 1st round by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens
Following the announced trade between the Canadiens and the Jets for Sean Monahan, and the rumors involving Cayden Lindstrom, Kent Hughes targets another young player.
Could the Montreal Canadiens, as they did in 2022, follow a specific theme with their two first-round picks?
In 2022, they drafted two Slovak teammates, Juraj Slafkovsky and Filip Mesar, and now, in 2024, the scenario could repeat itself.
Cayden Lindstrom and Andrew Basha with the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the draft?
It's certainly a possibility.
With the first-round pick acquired in the announced trade between Montreal and Winnipeg involving Sean Monahan (the 26th overall pick), Kent Hughes seems to have really targeted one name.
Andrew Basha, who is a very good friend and teammate of Cayden Lindstrom, had this to say:
«Andrew Basha met with the Habs here in Buffalo. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton attended the meeting, which they did not do for all prospects.
The Habs (scouts) also met Andrew in person this year.»
Anthony Martineau, TVA Sports
Wow. Clearly, something is happening here.
See what type of player would join the Montreal Canadiens if it materializes for Basha.
Andrew Basha: «I see myself as an elite player in the NHL. I like to compare my style to those of Kyle Connor and Jordan Kyrou.»
Via Anthony Martineau, TVA Sports There's also a nice bonus.
«Andrew Basha speaks French very well. His mother is from New Brunswick, and he attended a French-language school for several years.
I would already feel comfortable in Montreal!' Basha told me, laughing.»
Anthony Martineau
What a job by the TVA Sports journalist once again!
Returning to Cayden Lindstrom, you are obviously aware of the many rumors sending him to the Montreal Canadiens at the 5th overall pick, so don't be surprised if the Canadiens draft the two teammates and close friends, as they did with Slafkovsky and Mesar.
Andrew Basha on Cayden Lindstrom: «He's a beast. Honestly, he's ready for the NHL. He's also a wonderful guy.»
These are two names to watch!
Basha, 18 years old, 5 feet 11 inches and 184 pounds, is a left-handed forward who accumulated a very solid 85 points, including 30 goals, in 63 games this season in the WHL.
