According to insider Marco D'Amico, it seems that forward Mika Zibanejad might also be available for a trade, and it could happen sooner than we think.
At least, that's what he mentioned via his X account, but he also clarified that, according to one of his sources, a trade wasn't imminent in Zibanejad's case.
According to D'Amico, discussions have taken place between the Rangers' GM and a team from the Western Conference for the services of the 31-year-old veteran.
However, what could hinder negotiations is that Zibanejad, who was recently named to Sweden's team for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in February, is under contract for five more seasons with the Rangers with an annual salary of $8.5 million.
At that price, the Rangers' organization would need to offer something more to try to find a buyer for Mika Zibanejad's services, and it will be interesting to follow this story in case Kent Hughes has any interest.
As we know, it was Jeff Gorton who made the acquisition of Zibanejad when he was the Rangers' GM in 2016, in what was one of his best trades.
A few years ago, it was said that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton were looking for their Mika Zibanejad, still following the comparisons between the rebuilding of the New York Rangers and that of the Montreal Canadiens..
And what if the Mika Zibanejad of the Canadiens was.. Mika Zibanejad?
It's a possibility to keep in mind.
