A concrete trade offer between the Montreal Canadiens and the St. Louis Blues has just been put forward, and it is quite interesting.

It all started with the following post by the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin:

"Curious to see if we will witness a transaction or transactions before the Stanley Cup is won!

It's quite rare but it happens: During the 2023 playoffs, the Jackets had traded for Ivan Provorov (June 6) and Damon Severson (June 9).

To be continued!"

And concrete trade proposals were subsequently raised, including one that particularly caught our attention.

A trade between the CH and the Blues involving Quebecer Sammy Blais? We love the idea

During the NHL playoffs, it is not uncommon to see teams conclude trades to acquire the rights of free agents.

In fact, this is the main type of trade we see at this stage of the year.

It allows a team to sign a free agent (UFA) before July 1st and secure their services.

The Philadelphia Flyers did this a few years ago with Kevin Hayes.

That being said, could Kent Hughes trade a 6th or 7th round pick to acquire the rights of Quebecois forward Sammy Blais?

TO MONTREAL - Sammy Blais

TO ST. LOUIS - 6th or 7th round pick

He would be an ideal third or fourth-line player and he is a Stanley Cup champion.

Do you like the idea?

Blais, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward from Montmagny, has accumulated 71 points in 257 NHL games. (122 penalty minutes)

He earned $1 million this season, after being acquired by the Blues in the Vladimir Tarasenko trade in February 2023.

Blais had also been traded from the Blues to the Rangers, with a second-round pick in 2022, for the excellent Pavel Buchnevich.

A possibility to keep in mind.
