An analyst has just revealed a big trade proposal between the Montreal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Patrik Laine.

As reported by Marco Normandin, it's an interesting and logical proposal, especially since Kent Hughes has publicly confirmed he is looking for a top-6 forward.

Numerous sources have even started to claim that the Habs are aiming higher than Alex Newhook, in the sense that they are targeting an already established top-6 player.

Patrik Laine already has a 44-goal season under his belt, and several seasons during which he produced at rates of over 30 goals per 82 games.

He also has seasons of 72, 70, 76, 82, and 78 points per 82 games, which is obviously very solid for a young 26-year-old who stands 6 feet 5 inches tall.

What's interesting about Patrik Laine is that the price to acquire him will be much lower than for acquiring a Trevor Zegras or a Martin Necas.

Trade Proposal between the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets for Patrik Laine

Several rumors are circulating that the Columbus management wants to trade him to get rid of his contract, so his value is really at its lowest.

He's on sale, and it could pay off big for the team that takes the chance.

«Could the Canadiens try to get him at a discount in an attempt to revive his career by offering him a fresh start with Martin St. Louis in Montreal? This is what former CH professional scout Grant McCagg, now an analyst for the site Recrutes, proposes.» - HABSolumentFan

So, here is Grant McCagg's proposal:

To Columbus: Jets' 2024 1st round pick + Jordan Harris

To Montreal: Patrik Laine

At this price, would you do it?

Harris is a favorite of Trevor Timmins, who is now in Columbus, and taking a chance on Patrik Laine could be very interesting and rewarding for a team like the Canadiens.

What are the chances of drafting a better player than Laine with the 26th overall pick? If everything falls into place for Laine, he still has the potential to become an elite player with 35 to 40 goals per season.

Would you make this trade?

Laine, 26 years old, 6 feet 5 inches, and 215 pounds, was the 2nd overall pick in 2016 and has scored 9 points in 18 games this season. Last season, he recorded 52 points in 55 games, including 22 goals.

He earns 8.7 million dollars per year for two more seasons.
