In recent days, former NHL player Ryan Whitney set social media ablaze by mentioning that the Sens were shopping their captain Brady Tkachuk and that a big trade was brewing.

"The Senators are cooking something up right now. The 'Boys' have heard that Ottawa might trade Brady Tkachuk. I can't believe it because nobody could be that stupid." - Ryan Whitney

Shortly after, it was Renaud Lavoie's turn to add to the conversation, stating that there was not only a lot of noise around Tkachuk, but that the cloud of this noise has been hovering over the team since the start of the season.

The informant from TVA Sports even went on to wonder who would benefit from leaking this information?

"Who is whispering in Ryan Whitney's ear? Papa Tkachuk? Look at the St. Louis Blues. There's dissatisfaction among some players of the Blues. Maybe there's something to be done with that." - Renaud Lavoie

Ottawa responds to the rumor!

Seeing that the rumor was spreading faster and faster, the Ottawa Senators' GM, Steve Staios, had no choice but to comment on the situation.

"We are currently building the team around Brady and I am trying to do my best to surround him." - Steve Staios

Let's be clear, Staios has no advantage in confirming the rumor. So, this vote of confidence should be taken with a grain of salt. Do you remember when Bob Gainey said that Guy Carbonneau was his best move at the head of the CH before firing him a few days later?

Tkachuk, 24, is in the third season of his eight-year deal worth $57.5M. This season, he has accumulated 26 goals and 24 assists for a total of 50 points in 57 games. He is therefore heading towards a third consecutive season of 30 goals or more.
