Renowned journalist Pierre LeBrun has just revealed major information regarding the Chicago Blackhawks and the Montreal Canadiens.

Just before Kent Hughes' 5th overall pick, which fortunately became Ivan Demidov, Chicago really went all out and made a massive trade offer for the 4th overall pick.

Knowing that very reliable sources confirmed the Blackhawks were still hesitating between Artyom Levshunov and Ivan Demidov for their 2nd overall pick, many believe they were aiming for a home run.

The Blackhawks attempted to acquire the 4th overall pick and possibly steal Ivan Demidov from the Montreal Canadiens

They clearly wanted to draft both Levshunov and Demidov.

«This could have been fireworks at the start of the draft tonight. I'm told the Blackhawks offered next year's first round pick, unprotected, plus another pick, in exchange for the fourth overall pick.

I believe it was pretty close, but the Blue Jackets declined. They really like Cayden Lindstrom and couldn't pass on taking him.»

Wow! Chicago thus offered what could be the 1st or 2nd overall pick in 2025, plus another pick, to get their hands on the 4th overall pick and draft just ahead of the Montreal Canadiens.

Fortunately, Columbus refused, and we know the rest.

It's often a few hours after the draft that «insiders» and general managers spill the beans, and well, this was huge news.
