Despite the fact that both players are still under contract for a few more seasons, the organization wants to capitalize on their value while it still can.
That said, with such a statement from Drury, it was only a matter of time before some experts proposed trade scenarios involving the Montreal Canadiens, and one such scenario has been suggested by a former NHL goaltender.
During his appearance on BPM Sports, Martin Biron suggested that Kent Hughes should pursue defenseman Jacob Trouba, but with one condition.
In fact, he proposes that the Rangers retain $3 million of Trouba's $8 million annual salary and that he would be willing to offer none other than Arber Xhekaj, along with a quality prospect, in return for Trouba's services.
This trade might seem interesting on paper, but it appears far more complicated to execute in reality.
Trouba, who has another year remaining on his contract, won't be traded to another NHL team at a discount, and it will take much more than Xhekaj and a solid prospect to acquire him.
Nonetheless, adding Trouba to the right side of the defense would provide a significant boost to Martin St-Louis, especially with the possibility of losing David Savard by the end of the season.
Still, Biron's idea seems more like a proposal than a genuine rumor brought up by experts.
What about you? Do you like the idea, and would you make this trade proposed by Martin Biron?
