Georges Laraque proposes major trade between the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets
An interesting trade offer involving Kent Hughes of the Canadiens and Don Waddell of the Blue Jackets has just been submitted to BPM Sports by Georges Laraque.
As we reported earlier, Columbus is looking for a forward in the trade market:
General Manager Waddell even confirmed that discussions are currently underway to finalize a trade in this regard.
There are intense negotiations happening behind the scenes!
The Blue Jackets need to add a forward, but not just any forward. Ideally, they would need a solid veteran with a fairly high salary (due to the NHL salary cap floor).
With that in mind, host Georges Laraque indeed suggested a major trade for Kent Hughes and Don Waddell, a big trade involving Brendan Gallagher.
«After a few attempts, he finally agreed to offer a 2025 first-round pick (the one belonging to the Flames) in addition to prospect Owen Beck in exchange for offloading Gallagher's contract and freeing up nearly 7 million on the team's salary cap for the coming years.» - Marco Normandin Wow. Personally, I think that's way too high a price, especially considering that the Habs don't necessarily have to trade Gallagher at this time, especially given that Gallagher played very well at the end of last season.

To Columbus:
Brendan Gallagher 2025 1st-round pick FLA/CGY Owen Beck
Gallagher, 32, is a 5-foot-9, 183-pound forward. He was a 5th-round pick by the Canadiens in 2010. Last season, he scored 16 goals and 15 assists for a total of 31 points in 77 games.
And you, would you make this trade?
The Canadiens' No. 11 is signed for $6.5 million per year until 2027.
