This rumor gained traction last month when a Pittsburgh journalist (Mark Madden) mentioned that Letang had requested a trade to the Canadiens.
In response to this story, the question was directly asked to Kris by the excellent Rob Rossi (The Athletic), and here is his response.
«People talked about that? They didn't discuss it with me. [...] I didn't request a trade.» - Kris Letang
It would have been very surprising if he had confirmed it, but we can still say that his answer leaves little room for interpretation.
Kristopher Letang denies requesting a trade to the Montreal Canadiens
He even added that he is not at all dissatisfied with what is happening in Pittsburgh at the moment, despite the team's inability to make the NHL playoffs for two seasons (and with the arrival of defenseman Erik Karlsson).
«Every year will be different. In the National League, we always say that a two-week window can change a lot of things for an organization. That's how it is. We made changes. It was frustrating for everyone to see that things didn't take off last season. In the end, we were 24 hours away from qualifying and missed it,» he pointed out. «Yes, it was frustrating.» - Kris Letang, via TVA Sports
The Penguins will be fascinating to watch this season.
We also highly recommend the article by TVA Sports on this subject.
Kristopher Letang, 37 years old and originally from Montreal, accumulated 51 points in 82 games last season in Pittsburgh (742 points in 1,087 career NHL games).
He is signed until 2028 at $6.1 million per year. We wish him a fantastic 2024-2025 season.
