Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes just received a trade proposal involving Brendan Gallagher via BPM Sports.

It's known that Hughes is currently active on the phone in the trade market, potentially looking to move a veteran with a hefty contract.

Additionally, the Columbus Blue Jackets are in need of a forward, ideally one with a high salary, to meet the NHL's salary cap floor.

Given this context, on BPM Sports, host Georges Laraque submitted a trade proposal for Kent Hughes.

A trade offer between the Canadiens and Blue Jackets involving Brendan Gallagher, proposed by Georges Laraque

Could this be an opportunity for Kent Hughes to offload a burdensome contract? Here's the proposal.

Georges Laraque raised the idea of the Canadiens "helping" Columbus reach the salary cap floor, and here's the result of his reasoning.

For Montreal:

Future considerations and salary cap space

For Columbus:

2025 first-round pick (Calgary's) +

Owen Beck +

Brendan Gallagher

Personally, I think that's far too steep a price to pay just to trade Gallagher's contract, especially given his excellent end to the 2023-2024 season.

Furthermore, I don't believe Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would make this trade, at least not in the short term, especially since they don't urgently need to clear a large contract right now.

What do you think? Do you like Georges Laraque's proposal?
