Kent Hughes will trade his first-round pick under one condition only
According to the information from the renowned David Pagnotta, regarding his first pick in the 2024 draft, Kent Hughes has a plan involving the young Cayden Lindstrom.
With the fifth overall selection of the first round on June 28, the plan of the Montreal Canadiens' general manager would be to keep his pick, unless the young Lindstrom is no longer available! Interesting.
According to what journalist Pagnotta from The Fourth Period actually reports, if Cayden Lindstrom is ever drafted in the top-4, if he is no longer available at the 5th pick for the Canadiens, that's when Kent Hughes would be willing to trade his pick.
So don't be surprised if this materializes.
Kent Hughes will be open to trading his first pick if Cayden Lindstrom is no longer available at the 5th pick
Clearly, it's understood that Lindstrom is very high on the Canadiens' list. He is probably top-3, along with Macklin Celebrini and Ivan Demidov.
«Increasingly, whispers behind the scenes suggest that Cayden Lindstrom is very high on the Canadiens' list and if he is no longer available at the 5th pick, Kent Hughes could trade his pick.»
- David Pagnotta
Other teams aren't buying that mindset just yet and seem to think a lot of Montreal's decisions this summer will be determined around or during the NHL Draft, specifically if Cayden Lindstrom is or isn't available at No.5.
Lindstrom is ranked third among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting after projected first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini and defenceman Artyom Levshunov. On the international side, the top three is led by defenceman Anton Silayev, followed by right wing Ivan Demidov at No.2 and centre Konsta Helenius at No.3. There is growing belief Lindstrom is high on Montreal's draft board, but if he's not available at the fifth-overall slot, Hughes could move the pick." Pagnotta said. He doesn't mention it, but we imagine that Pagnotta means here that the Canadiens will probably trade their pick if Cayden Lindstrom and Ivan Demidov are no longer available at the 5th pick of the first round.
It promises to be an exciting June 28, and we are extremely eager to see the outcome.
We are especially eager to see who the first four picks will be. In an ideal scenario, the first four selections would be Macklin Celebrini and three defensemen.
Cayden Lindstrom, 18 years old, is a 6-foot-4 and 215-pound center who amassed a solid 46 points (27 goals) in 32 games this season in the WHL. (66 penalty minutes)
Ranked as the third-best prospect in North America, the big center for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League continues to gain points.
