I don't comment much on CH players, but I have to admit that I love Hutson and I absolutely had to talk about this trade suggestion that Simon Boisvert would accept.
We have experts, like Craig Button, who say that Lane Hutson would be a top-5 pick in the 2022 draft if we were to do it over again.
So, in my opinion, it would be completely ridiculous to trade him for, say, an 8th overall pick in 2024, to select a player who will need another 2-3 years to develop.
Maybe Lane Hutson will be an Adam Fox or a Quinn Hughes, maybe he will be an NHL star, or maybe he won't be as good as expected, but we have to find out!
We have to keep him and avoid making a big mistake. We have to see what happens.
Certainly, in his two games with the Canadiens, he really impressed me and it's extremely promising for the future.
Back to Simon Boisvert, in the most recent episode of «Processus,» a BPM Sports podcast, he stated this.
And you, would you do it?
Lane Hutson, 20 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, and 165 pounds, is a second-round pick by the Canadiens in 2022 (62nd overall).
He collected 49 points in 38 games this season in the NCAA, and two points in two games with Montreal in the NHL.
I wouldn't even trade Lane Hutson for the 3rd overall pick in 2024. I would trade him for Macklin Celebrini, and possibly for Ivan Demidov, but that's it.
