Journalist Mathias Brunet and his colleague Simon Boisvert had an interesting discussion about a potential trade of Logan Mailloux by the Canadiens.

During their podcast, the two experts addressed the possibility that Mailloux could be used as a trade asset by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.

That's exactly what they did with defenseman Alexander Romanov.

A trade involving Logan Mailloux due to his strong market value?

During this discussion, which sparked many reactions from fans, Boisvert raised a question.

«Is he really that good offensively [Logan Mailloux]?»

While expressing his skepticism about Mailloux playing 5-10 years in Montreal, he suggests that the young defenseman drafted in 2021 could become a trade asset for Hughes and Gorton.

And Mathias Brunet agreed:

«I have the feeling that Mailloux could be used as a trade chip.

You know, a team like Calgary (...) that likes this type of defenseman.»

- Mathias Brunet

He added that, in the case of Romanov, there were several signs pointing to him eventually being traded by the Montreal Canadiens (which happened), and he added this.

«And with Mailloux, it's the same thing.»

- Mathias Brunet

We recommend listening to the full clip (video above) to fully understand the context, but it's clear they wouldn't be surprised if Mailloux were traded just as Romanov was a few years ago.

In any case, it's a situation to monitor, but I think the Habs would benefit from being patient with Logan Mailloux.

It's obvious that his trade value is higher than Justin Barron's, and they are competing as young right-handed defensemen in Montreal, but I would still prioritize Mailloux.

What about you?
