Jake Allen reveals what he truly thinks of Samuel Montembeault as a goalie and makes a major statement
Former Montreal Canadiens goaltender, Jake Allen, just made an interesting statement about his former teammate Samuel Montembeault.
Allen, who knows Montembeault very well as both a goaltender and as a person, left the Habs via trade in March 2024 and was back at the Bell Centre last night with his New Jersey Devils.
He believes Samuel has the necessary talent to take it to the next level!
Jake Allen has high hopes for Samuel Montembeault
Here's an excerpt of what he said.
«I believe he should be ready to move to the next level. He's evolving along with the team, and I feel the team is also ready to take the next step.
I wasn't around over the past few days, but I still have a pretty good idea of what's going on at camp [with the Montreal Canadiens]. I trained in Brossard until July this summer, so I spent time with several of the guys, and I think they're ready to move to another level, and I believe that's where Samuel is as well.
I know it was his first game tonight, and he was excellent. It's only pre-season, but I think he has a lot to prove, in a good way. I believe he absolutely should be considered for a spot with Team Canada, not just for a spot with the Montreal Canadiens, and I think that should be his goal.
Obviously, putting the Habs first, but at the same time, he should aim high.»
- Jake Allen, on Samuel Montembeault and the Montreal Canadiens
Wow! It's a great reminder of just how exceptional a person Jake Allen is, and that he also has that unmistakable 'coach' mentality.
His advice to Montembeault is extremely insightful.
And what about the step he took, coming back to train in Brossard with some of the young players on the Montreal Canadiens, notably to offer advice and pass along his knowledge and wisdom.
It's so wonderful to see and hear, coming from a veteran like Jake Allen.
