We have new information regarding a potential trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets involving the young Rutger McGroarty.

According to well-connected Elliotte Friedman, there have indeed been very serious discussions about a trade between MTL and WPG involving the young forward McGroarty. Wow.

Was the 21st Overall Pick Involved in the Trade for Rutger McGroarty?

Here are Friedman's exact words:
«There's also Rutger McGroarty there were a few times the Jets thought they were close to trading him, there were conversations with Montreal...»- Elliotte Friedman, via HabsOnReddit

There is good reason to believe that the 21st overall pick, which became Michael Hage, was involved.
Now that McGroarty is still a member of the Jets, this is a situation to watch closely because it's clear that Kent Hughes has not said his last word on this big matter.
McGroarty, 20, was the 14th overall pick in 2022 (1st round). He is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who amassed an incredible 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA.
He played for the University of Michigan and is ready to make the jump to the NHL immediately. He truly has the potential to become a solid top-6 forward very quickly.
He would be quite the acquisition for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
