On their side, nothing is working for the New York Rangers.
Their season is hugely disappointing, and GM Chris Drury is being heavily criticized.
To capitalize on the Canucks' situation and try to get themselves out of trouble, the executive reportedly attempted a blockbuster move.
According to what has been reported by insider Josh Yohe, a trade offer from the Rangers was rejected by the Canucks.
It was very simple and only involved two players:
Mika Zibanejad for J.T. Miller
The idea behind this trade is interesting, as both players have a similar style and the same age (31 years old).
They also have very similar contracts: Miller ($8M/year for 4 more years) and Zibanejad ($8.5M/year for 4 more years).
However, J.T. Miller is better defensively and has two seasons with over 99 points (99 and 103).
It is still unclear whether the two parties are still in discussions to try to reach an agreement or if talks have broken down.
Drury may need to add a little more to finalize this trade.
It will be interesting to follow what both teams do leading up to the trade deadline, especially the Rangers. They definitely need to change the trend as there is strong discontent in the Big Apple.
Could Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton see an opportunity here, for very talented names like Miller, Pettersson, and Zibanejad?
