Carrier, acquired from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Justin Barron, has had a solid start with the Canadiens, and his performance could very well signal the end for Savard within the organization.
Number 58 will become a free agent at the end of the season, and several sources had claimed that Kent Hughes could have obtained at least a first-round pick for his services, but two renowned insiders revealed that Savard's value is no longer what it once was.
According to Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston of The Athletic, two teams have shown interest in the veteran Quebec defenseman: the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In fact, LeBrun stated that Edmonton would be the ideal destination for David Savard because the Oilers need defensive reinforcement, and in his opinion, the Habs' defenseman wouldn't cost too much.
In fact, since the Oilers don't have a first-round pick available for the upcoming draft, it is likely that his value has significantly decreased over the past few months.
For his part, Johnston suggests he could see Savard with the Maple Leafs, and like the Oilers, the Toronto organization also does not have a first-round selection in the 2025 draft.
That being said, it is clear that Kent Hughes will want to maximize the value of his veteran defenseman, but if he is unable to get what he desires and the Canadiens are fighting for a playoff spot at the trade deadline, then why not keep David Savard's services until the end of his contract?
A case to follow.
