Mika Zibanejad Offered to the Canadiens in a Trade? Hughes May Be Eyeing Massive Sean Monahan-Style Deal
We've just had an interesting development in the NHL trade market, and it's intriguing for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
According to The Athletic, a highly reputable and reliable media outlet, Mika Zibanejad's contract is currently "almost impossible to trade" for the Rangers.
This means it would be considered an undesirable contract, holding little to no trade value on the market.
Given that acquiring Mika Zibanejad was one of the best moves in Jeff Gorton's career when he was the general manager of the New York Rangers, could it be an interesting option for the Canadiens?
We're talking about a player who could take on the role Sean Monahan has in Montreal.
Mika Zibanejad as a "Sean Monahan-type" acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens?
If his contract is undesirable, it's worth taking advantage of.
We're looking at a 31-year-old center, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 203 pounds, who has accumulated 688 points in 859 career games in the National Hockey League (296 goals).
This season, he has a strong 10 points in 11 games, and he is the first-line center of what is likely one of the NHL's top three teams at the moment.
I don't understand why they say his contract is impossible to trade, but if the Rangers do indeed see it as undesirable, I believe the Canadiens should at least inquire.
The contract in question is worth $8.5 million per year, valid until 2030.
Personally, I believe Zibanejad is worth every penny of that $8.5 million at the moment, if not more.
This will be a situation to keep an eye on in New York.
