A trade made by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens has just been modified, following last night's playoff games.

It should be noted that on February 2, 2024, Kent Hughes traded Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets for:

- A 1st round pick 2024

- A conditional 3rd round pick 2027.

Following the Jets' elimination last night against the Colorado Avalanche, in five games, the trade concluded with the Canadiens has been modified.

"Draft pick conditions update:

The Montreal Canadiens will not receive the 2027 3rd round pick from the Sean Monahan trade." - CapFriendly

The condition on the third-round pick transferred by the Jets in the Sean Monahan deal required them to win the Stanley Cup. Thus, the Canadiens will only receive the Winnipeg Jets' first-round pick.

This settles the file for the Monahan transaction.

Monahan, 29 years old, amassed 24 points, including 13 goals, in 34 games with the Winnipeg Jets. With the Montreal Canadiens, he scored 35 points, including 13 goals, in 49 games.

He has thus scored 26 goals this season! (and 59 points)

Sean Monahan will now be a free agent on July 1st and will be able to sign with the team of his choice. Will he return to the Canadiens?
