Journalists from Montreal believe in it, but so do journalists from Anaheim as well as from all corners of the National Hockey League.
However, is there really a "fit" possible, for a trade between the Canadiens and the Ducks involving Cole Caufield's best friend?
As reported by Raphaël Simard, in the context of his end-of-season press conference, Pat Verbeek (GM of the Ducks) has finally clearly announced his intentions.
Verbeek wants to acquire: a top-4 right-handed defenseman and a top-6 right winger.
These are his two biggest needs, and it is clearly what it would take to acquire a player as talented as Trevor Zegras.
The players that would apparently interest the Ducks are Justin Barron, Logan Mailloux, and David Reinbacher (they must really believe in Barron though).
On offense, there would be Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, and Cole Caufield who fit this description of the Ducks, but they are obviously not up for trade.
This will therefore be a case to follow, but it's interesting to finally know what the mysterious general manager of the Ducks is looking for. It's certain that he would demand names of this kind, if Kent Hughes calls him to conclude a transaction.
Zegras, 23 years old, has amassed 15 points in 31 games this season (8 points in 8 games to finish the year) as well as 65 points in 81 games last season.
Would you trade a Logan Mailloux or a David Reinbacher, in order to acquire Trevor Zegras? Unless Kent Hughes pulls off a little miracle, by trading Barron and some draft picks?
