So far, Hughes is two for two when it comes to making a significant trade during the draft session. (Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach)
Based on his recent statements, we must absolutely expect him to try to conclude a similar deal again.
Which players might suffer?
That's what journalist Mathias Brunet, from La Presse, seems to think.
According to him, the two defensemen who are most at risk of being traded are Harris and Barron. We are talking here about two young defensemen with some value, but who can no longer return to the Laval Rocket. (eligible for NHL waivers)
And as we saw in the Cayden Primeau case, Kent Hughes is really not a fan of sending young players to waivers.
He doesn't say this lightly.
It will therefore be an interesting case to follow, and it's logical to think that Harris and Barron have been placed on the market. However, in Barron's case, it's surprising because he was acquired quite recently by trade. (by Kent Hughes no less!)
Barron, a 22-year-old right-handed defenseman, was a 1st round pick in 2020. He has accumulated 30 points in 94 career NHL games. (all with the CH) He added 11 points in 32 games this season with the Laval Rocket.
Harris, a 23-year-old left-handed defenseman, was a 3rd round pick in 2018. He has accumulated 32 points in 131 career NHL games. (all with the CH) He has never played with the Laval Rocket.
