The promising 22-year-old netminder, who was ultimately traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for David Edstrom (32nd overall pick in 2023) + a 2025 1st-round pick + goaltender Magnus Chrona, will get a fresh start.
We know that the Montreal Canadiens made a trade offer to try to acquire Yaroslav Askarov, but what was that offer?
Expert Simon Boisvert has weighed in on the matter.
On BPM Sports, he mentioned that, in his opinion, the Canadiens' offer likely involved:
- The Flames' or Panthers' 1st-round pick (acquired in the Sean Monahan trade)
+
- Owen Beck, who was the 33rd overall pick in 2022.
It's also assumed that a goaltender like Jakub Dobes would have been needed to replace Magnus Chrona in the Sharks' offer.
In any case, the Nashville Predators preferred San Jose's offer.
According to Boisvert, this is probably because they simply like Edstrom better than Beck.
If that's the case, would you have agreed to trade Owen Beck, the FLA/CGY 1st-round pick, and a goaltender like Jakub Dobes for Yaroslav Askarov?
It could have been interesting for the next two seasons and would have made a solid partner for Samuel Montembeault, but at the same time, I really believe Jacob Fowler could be the solution.
