Now that the 2023-2024 NHL season is over, we can now focus on the summer season for Kent Hughes.

The Canadiens' GM will have a lot on his plate in order to improve his team for the upcoming season, and most experts expect him to be active on the trade market, particularly to seek reinforcements for the offense.

However, as reported by the site Marqueur, we must not overlook movements among the defensemen as the Canadiens could very well trade a veteran from the blue line during the summer.

David Savard on the trading block? A target for the Montreal Canadiens' Kent Hughes, according to David Pagnotta

In recent days, the well-known insider David Pagnotta has indeed compiled a list of the 25 players most likely to be traded this summer, and at the 10th spot, we find a certain David Savard.

As we know, the veteran Canadiens defenseman will play the final year of his four-year contract signed in the summer of 2021 during the 2024-2025 season, and according to Pagnotta, three teams are interested in his services.

These teams are the Dallas Stars, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Winnipeg Jets.

«For teams looking to add a solid and reliable defenseman to their blue line, Savard meets several criteria. He is entering the final year of his contract and could strengthen the back end of a cup contender in 2024-25.

Teams interested in David Savard:
The Dallas Stars, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Winnipeg Jets.»

These three teams would be very happy to add a quality veteran like David Savard, as he would bring experience to their lineups, and all three teams should be very competitive next season.

And if Kent is unable to trade his defenseman during the summer, he can always count on the trade deadline, as Savard will become a free agent in the summer of 2025.
