In the last few seconds, Kent Hughes' right-hand man, Jeff Gorton, was at a press conference just hours before the 2024 NHL draft.
He caused a surprise by outright announcing that it's over for Jesse Ylonen with the Montreal Canadiens.
«Jesse Ylonen will not receive a qualifying offer from the Montreal Canadiens and will become an unrestricted free agent.» - Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports
He will therefore be free as a bird in a few days.

It's Over for Jesse Ylonen with the Montreal Canadiens
Thus, a player who had become a regular in Martin St-Louis' lineup will not be returning to the team.
Jesse Ylonen, 24, was the Canadiens' 35th overall pick in 2018. He accumulated 8 points in 59 games this season with the big club in Montreal, not playing a single game with the Laval Rocket this season.
Last year, he scored 32 points in 39 games in Laval, and 16 points in 37 games in Montreal.
We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
We did not expect this type of announcement from Gorton tonight, but let's say it's quite major.
This frees up a contract spot for the Montreal Canadiens in preparation for the opening of the free-agent market next Monday.
