Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising if he pulls off another move in the coming days, and this time it could be even more spectacular than his first two trades.
As we all know, Hughes is in search of offensive talent, and he might use his surplus of defensemen to acquire a star forward. While rumors point to Trevor Zegras or Martin Necas, don't be surprised if a trade comes from out of left field.
That's what La Presse journalist Mathias Brunet believes. He adds that he expects the Canadiens to make a stunning move that no one will see coming.
BPM Sports - Le Canadien procèdera à un coup d'éclat cet été
Once again, we need to think outside the box and consider who in the league could be the ideal forward to complement the Canadiens. Unlike us, Hughes knows that a player who seems unavailable from our point of view might actually be obtainable.
His negotiating skills will also help in convincing one of his counterparts to part with a player that no one expects to be moved. We'll just have to wait and see who that player will be...
On BPM Sports, Brunet included this point in a list of things that might happen before the next time he speaks with host Martin Lemay, which will be in August. Here are a few other points from that list:
- The Canadiens' pick at the 5th spot will be known (and it could be Cayden Lindstrom, according to the columnist)
- A top-6 winger (arriving via trade and it won't be Necas or Zegras)
- A young defenseman will leave (and it could very well be Jordan Harris)
- Jesse Ylönen will not receive a qualifying offer
- There will be new goalies in New Jersey and Ottawa
- The Utah team will make a splash (to give a little gift to their fans)
- Mitch Marner will still be a Toronto Maple Leaf
- Steven Stamkos and Sam Reinhart will remain in Florida/Tampa
It will be interesting to see how many of these predictions/wishes come true when the BPM Sports team returns on air!
