Knowing that Kent Hughes and the Canadiens are trying to acquire a forward like Martin Necas or Trevor Zegras, the Buffalo Sabres have made an announcement.

And it's not good news for Montreal, because it really creates competition to acquire a top 6 forward.

The Sabres have just put their 11th overall pick on the trade market, and with this 2024 11th overall pick, they also want to acquire a top 6 forward, just like what Kent Hughes is looking for.

This could complicate Hughes' efforts, as he doesn't have an 11th overall pick to offer!

The Sabres would evidently trade their first-round pick for a Martin Necas

Does this pick have more value than a "package" involving a young defenseman, a prospect like Owen Beck, and a 26th overall pick?

That will be up to the Carolina Hurricanes and/or the Anaheim Ducks to decide, but it definitely raises the stakes.

Let's also remember the New Jersey Devils, who have officially put their first-round pick on the trade market as well, with the 10th overall pick.

However, in their case, they are looking for a goaltender in return.

One thing is certain, things are going to get interesting around the 10th and 11th picks in the draft on June 28th in Las Vegas, and clearly, the market is heating up.

We are eager to see what Kent Hughes can come up with.
