After the Patrik Laine trade, could Kent Hughes pull off a second major trade?
It's known that Georges Laraque believes the Canadiens should pursue Askarov via trade.
But is it realistic and feasible?
It's worth noting that young Askarov has officially requested a trade, and that the Predators are currently trying to find him a new team, but there will be a lot of interest in the NHL.
Could that team be the Montreal Canadiens?
Would he be a good partner for Samuel Montembeault, ahead of Cayden Primeau?
Barry Trotz is certainly open to discussions, in any case.
Askarov, who wants to play in the NHL next year, was the 11th overall pick in 2020 (a first-round selection).
Journalist Tony Ferrari, from The Hockey Writers, named five teams that could potentially acquire Askarov via trade.
Here are the five teams in question:
- The Chicago Blackhawks
- The San Jose Sharks
- The Toronto Maple Leafs
- The Utah Hockey Club
and
- The Montreal Canadiens.
He believes that Kent Hughes is one of the few NHL general managers with the necessary depth, in terms of prospects and draft picks, to make an acceptable offer for the Nashville Predators (and he's right).
This is a situation to keep an eye on.
On that note, Elliotte Friedman reveals what the Canadiens must give up in exchange for Yaroslav Askarov:
If the Preds are interested in names like Owen Beck or Filip Mesar, in addition to draft picks, do you think Kent Hughes should take a shot at acquiring Yaroslav Askarov?
It will be interesting to see what happens next for the 6'3" goaltender.
Stay tuned!
