Russian Valeri Nichushkin was not in the lineup for the Colorado Avalanche against the Seattle Kraken, nor was he with the team. He reportedly left, without giving a specific reason, to return to his homeland.
What is concerning in Valeri's case is the well-known political situation of his country. Alex Ovechkin also left earlier this season, but for family reasons.
In Nichushkin's case, it wouldn't be for such reasons, even though we have very few details.
It is said that every citizen of this country has an obligation to follow the directives of the military, and it is even said that Valeri was escorted to the airport, which proves the seriousness of the matter.
« After the game, Jared Bednar confirmed that the Russian had to leave the team for personal reasons. It is neither an injury nor a disciplinary measure.
Nichushkin didn't just leave the team. He was accompanied by security to the Seattle airport, where he took a flight to go... somewhere. When asked if he had returned to Colorado, team representatives said they didn't know.»

This is obviously extremely worrying.
Obviously, on the ice, it is a big loss for the Avalanche, but as Stéphane Richer already said, there is more to life than hockey.
A case to follow, but from what we hear, the Russian player will not be back anytime soon.
