The goal here is not to start a rumor, quite the opposite, but this is a rather obvious observation.
We can agree that, in any case, the Stars will never trade Stankoven, who is clearly on track to become a "star" forward in the National Hockey League (without wanting to make any bad puns).
That being said, this is now the third consecutive interview/press conference where Kent Hughes himself has brought up the name of young Stankoven.
It's starting to be a lot.
In fact, he's probably one of the only players in the entire NHL that has been mentioned by the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens (apart from, of course, the Habs' players), and he has been mentioned three times in three media availabilities by Kent Hughes.
Notably, in his most recent interview with Tony Marinaro, on BPM Sports, Kent Hughes was asked about Serge Savard's comments and the fact that the team has several smaller-sized players, like Cole Caufield and Alex Newhook.
To respond, Hughes immediately gave the example of Logan Stankoven, who isn't the biggest player but wins practically all his battles "in the corners" to come out with the puck.
It probably will never happen, but it's something to keep in mind if Stankoven ever becomes available on the market one day.
Logan Stankoven, 21 years old, is a 5-foot-8, 171-pound forward. He was the 47th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and accumulated an impressive 57 points in 47 games in his rookie season in the AHL.
He added 14 points in 24 games with the Dallas Stars, along with his 8 points in 19 NHL playoff games.
Yes, he will be an extremely special player.
To praise the merits of smaller-sized players, Hughes indeed spoke about Stankoven, and also about none other than Martin St-Louis. That says a lot.
