The day after the NHL's hectic trade deadline, the Montreal Canadiens still face the same issue to close out the season, they need a better second-line center.

Owen Beck has shown some promising qualities, but he clearly doesn't have the trust of head coach Martin St-Louis, as evidenced by his 7-8 minutes of ice time per game.

As a result, a new name has just been identified as a potential replacement for Owen Beck for the remainder of the season.

Alex Barré-Boulet could replace Owen Beck in Montreal

This idea is gaining more and more traction.

Alex Barré-Boulet: A great option to replace Owen Beck.

After all, Barré-Boulet has some experience and undoubtedly possesses intriguing potential.

This is the perfect opportunity to finally give him a real shot.

At 27 years old, Quebec forward Alex Barré-Boulet has put up an impressive 47 points in 47 games this season with the Laval Rocket. In previous AHL campaigns, he recorded 19 points in 23 games, 84 points in 69 games, and 63 points in 58 games.

He seems far too dominant for the American Hockey League.

Could he have a late breakout similar to Carter Verhaeghe?

In his NHL career, he has 18 points in 70 games and actually started this season with the Canadiens.

Do you like the idea?

By the way, I'm not at all against keeping Owen Beck for the rest of the season, but I'm simply looking at the numbers, which indicate that Martin St-Louis doesn't really trust him.

So, they need a player that MSL believes in.
