David Perron makes a crazy statement involving the Canadiens
On many occasions, the name of David Perron has been linked to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
This could happen again as the main person involved has openly mentioned that playing for his childhood club would be a dream for him.
He made this statement on BPM Sport radio. While discussing the Wings' season with Martin Lemay, the host had no choice but to ask the free agent about his plans, and if they included Montreal. Here is his response:
"I've mentioned it to other people, but when I play in Montreal, compared to when I play at home with the Red Wings, I don't have the same nervousness as when I step onto the ice, and you hear the Coldplay song start. There's something, even though in my preparation, I do the same thing. There's a certain extra electricity in my veins. I feel like if I played 10-15 games, it would become natural, and I would be able to apply my 'game' in the right way. It would be a dream to play in Montreal."
"Martin St-Louis has never played for the Canadiens, but to 'coach', I think it's the same thing. If it doesn't happen as a player, it will happen in another role, possibly, later." - David Perron
He clearly announces his intentions!
Now 35 years old, Perron has 1131 games of experience in the NHL. He accumulated 17 goals and 30 assists for a total of 47 points in 76 games last season. We also remember his magnificent goal, with three seconds to go, against the CH in the last game of the season. This goal kept alive, for a while, the hopes of the Michigan club to participate in the playoffs.
Given the veteran's success this season, there's no doubt he still has juice in the tank for a few more seasons. He could be an excellent big brother for the young players of the CH, as he knows the game and especially the Montreal market.
David Perron sends a message to Kent Hughes and the CH as an upcoming free agent
Perron, who will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st next, had an average salary of $4.75M over the last two seasons with the Wings. In his interview, he also mentioned that if he uprooted his children from their environment, it would be for the last time. He could thus return home and end his career in Quebec!
Nevertheless, the main person involved is still in Detroit and would like to stay! Kent Hughes will therefore have to be very convincing!
