A text was published this morning via a Chicago media outlet, and they talk about a "disheartening end to Corey Perry's career," as he no longer seems to be in the Edmonton Oilers' plans at the most crucial time of their season.
He seemed to be doing a good job.
That's what many are suggesting today, but in any case, we all agree that he is definitely at the end of his career.
What prompted the Oilers to suddenly remove Perry from their regular lineup? Good question.
We particularly remember that heated exchange with Evander Kane, who is increasingly taking up space in the Oilers' locker room.
Perry had a very eventful year, starting the season well with the Chicago Blackhawks before seeing his contract terminated following a controversy that you are well aware of.
He was given a second chance with Connor McDavid's team, and many believed he was hired specifically for the playoffs, but that was clearly not the case.
He was removed from the lineup for Game #6, he was removed from the lineup for the decisive game (Game #7) against the Vancouver Canucks, and he has not played since.
Even though the Oilers' victory was profitable for him:
It certainly must affect him to see his team playing such important games while he is in the stands.
This will be a story to follow, but it's probably not the career ending Corey Perry had hoped for.
Perry, aged 39, has played 1,311 regular-season NHL games and 206 playoff games. What a career!
