In the last few hours, the Florida Panthers made a surprising announcement.

They have cut goaltender Spencer Knight.

The very promising young goalie will therefore start the next season in the AHL, and that was all it took for trade rumors to ignite in this case.

Let's recall that Knight briefly entered the NHL's player assistance program last season due to obsessive-compulsive disorder.

In short, following the Panthers' announcement that Knight had been cut from the training camp, the excellent Marco D'Amico posted this.

"If the Canadiens want to take a "Kirby Dach" gamble on a young goaltender, Spencer Knight would be my target.

Just sent to the minors by the Panthers."

We love the idea.

Knight, 22 years old, is a 6-foot-3-inch goalie who was drafted 13th overall in 2019 by the Florida Panthers, two ranks ahead of a certain Cole Caufield.

He was also Caufield's goalie with the U.S. U18 program.

Spencer Knight has the potential to become one of the best goaltenders in the world, and Caufield knows him well.

Do you like the idea?
