A forward appreciated by the Boston Bruins has just been linked to the Canadiens following Montreal's major announcement.

James van Riemsdyk, a 2nd overall pick in 2007 who scored 38 points with the Bruins last season, could be a very affordable solution for Kent Hughes.

With the sad major announcement this week (the severe injury to Rafael Harvey-Pinard), it could be a logical replacement option.

James van Riemsdyk with the Montreal Canadiens? A proposal by the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

Here is his exact post:

«I know he's 35, but with RHP's injury, I wouldn't be against the idea of giving a one-year contract at around $1.5M to James van Riemsdyk.

The 6'3, 208-pound forward just produced 38 points. The Habs have a spot in their top 6. And he could bring back an interesting pick at the trade deadline if he produces!

Not a must, but an interesting option that involves no risk!»

- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

I like the suggestion! He may no longer be a 60-65 point forward or a 30-goal scorer, but at less than $1.6 million per year, why not?

Moreover, he is still excellent on the power play, and improving the power play would be a significant asset for the Canadiens.

A possibility to keep in mind.

JVR, 35, has produced at rates of 44 points, 40 points, 40 points, and 63 points over the past seasons. He is still quite productive and could be an excellent veteran presence for the young Canadiens players.
