As our colleagues at Fanadiens.com have pointed out, June 15 is (sort of) a landmark day, for many Montreal Canadiens fans.

Today, on this Wednesday, June 15, it's officially been 5 years since the Montreal Canadiens traded young defenseman Mikhail Sergachev (+ a conditional 2nd round pick) for forward Jonathan Drouin (+ a conditional 6th round pick).

According to many, this remains one of the worst trades made by Marc Bergevin in his career.

On June 15, 2017, the CH effectively announced this major trade, which caused a huge reaction in Quebec.

Sergachev had just been drafted 9th overall by the Tricolore (the year before) and had just made his NHL debut. He was the best prospect in the organization.

He finally played 4 little games in his career in Montreal. Since then, Sergachev has already played 444 games with the Lightning, and the 23 year old defenseman already has 201 points. He is still far from having reached his full potential.

As for Drouin, when he arrived in Montreal, he was supposed to become an all-star player and the expectations were huge. Unfortunately, he has never been able to surpass them and he has missed a lot of games, especially in the last 2-3 years.

He has amassed :

46 points in 77 games, in 2017-18

53 points in 81 games in 2018-19

15 points in 27 games in 2019-20

23 points in 44 games in 2020-21

and 20 points in 34 games in 2021-22.

Drouin was traded by the Lightning following a disagreement with the organization, including a dismissal in the AHL.

Looking back, what is your opinion of the trade?
