Aside from young sensation Juraj Slafkovsky, there are other young Montreal Canadiens prospects who are getting attention in this year's rookie tournament, including Owen Beck and Filip Mesar.
Mesar, the CH's second first-round pick in 2022, was notably solid last night against the New Jersey Devils rookies (even without his good friend Slafkovsky).
Speaking of the great relationship between the Habs' two 2022 first-round picks in a media scrum, Mesar dropped a rather disturbing statement.
It's hard to tell if he was trying to send a message, a little warning, or if he just dropped this little detail, but Mesar did mention this:
"I think it's good for me because maybe it's a little too much pressure for him sometimes (referring to Slafkovsky). It's probably easier for me. I prefer not to have too much attention. It was crazy (when they returned to Slovakia after the draft). We have a lot of pressure in our country, and for Juraj it's sometimes too much, but we handle it well. Juraj is very strong mentally."
- Filip Mesar
Not surprisingly, we hear that sometimes it's too much pressure for the young Slafkovsky. You can guess that this makes the fans react.
It's true that, when you think about it, it's quite a gift for Mesar to go so under the radar. It's extremely rare to see a CH first round pick get so little attention. This could really be beneficial for Mesar.
As for Slafkovsky, it's a good reminder for all of us. He's under absolutely tremendous pressure from Montreal Canadiens fans and reporters, but also from the entire Slovakian community.
"I think it's good for me because maybe it's a little too much pressure for him sometimes (referring to Slafkovsky)."
- Let's remember this statement from Filip Mesar, about his friend Slafkovsky
Let's keep that in mind when judging the youngster, who is managing it all brilliantly at the moment despite everything.
