Throughout the summer, numerous sources, including the excellent Frank Seravalli, have reported that they are open to trading defenseman Damon Severson.
Persistent trade rumors.
With the addition of players like John Marino and Simon Nemec, Severson becomes less of a need for them, and (get this) we're talking about a dynamic and mobile right-handed defenseman.
In short, exactly what Kent Hughes is currently looking for on the trade market.
On the other side, the New Jersey management would really like to add depth to the offense, and they are aiming more at adding veterans, since they already have several youngsters.
Could there be a trade between the two organizations? You be the judge, but it could absolutely make both teams happy.
Severson, 28, is a right-handed defenseman drafted in the second round in 2012. He put up a very solid 46 points last season, but only three points in 15 games this season.
He currently earns $4.1 million per season through next summer, similar to players like Mike Hoffman, Evgenii Dadonov and Christian Dvorak.
It would not be surprising to see the Devils trade Severson for a forward, and more importantly, it would not be surprising to see the Canadiens trade a forward, for a right-handed defenseman. Kent Hughes has openly mentioned that this is what he is trying to accomplish in the trade market.
Do you think this is the kind of trade Kent Hughes would consider? What forward would you offer for a player like Severson?
We also know they really love Josh Anderson, but they'll have to add a lot to get there.
