As we know, Kent Hughes tried to acquire him during the presentation of the first round at the Bell Centre, the rumour machine started and many people expected that an announcement would be imminent concerning Dubois' arrival with the Habs.
However, this file has been much calmer for the past few weeks and we expect to see the Quebec forward start the next season with the Winnipeg Jets.
Dubois has two seasons left before he becomes an uncompensated free agent and for many hockey fans, that's when the forward could join the Habs, but as my colleagues at Fanadiens.com report, another NHL team could also be seriously interested in Dubois' services.
Kent Hughes would have a big rival in this matter and the opposing GM is really trying to close the deal. At least that's what reputable tipster Elliotte Friedman revealed on the 32 Thoughts podcast, while indicating that the identity of the team in question remains unknown at this time.
But still according to Friedman, it would be a team whose window of opportunity to win big honors would not be very long anymore and who would be willing to take the risk of paying the big price to acquire Dubois, in the short term, even if it means losing him for full autonomy in two years.
Which team would it be?
But no matter which team would like to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois via trade, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff won't let him go on the cheap despite the fact that Dubois recently said he has no intention of signing a new contract with the team.
