Several weeks ago, the Montreal Canadiens released a documentary detailing the behind-the-scenes of the last draft. This video contained a wealth of interesting information. While the debates around David Reinbacher and Jacob Fowler were interesting to follow, the segment discussing young defender Bogdan Konyushkov greatly caught my attention.
Indeed, as you will see around the 13th minute of the documentary, the hockey men of the CH had high regard for the young Russian. Nick Bobrov even went as far as to give the ultimate compliment about Konyushkov.
In 64 games in the KHL last season, Konyushkov amassed 2 goals and 23 assists, for a total of 25 points. He also added 5 points in 10 playoff games. The defenseman played nearly 21 minutes per game, while being used on both special units. His contribution quickly made him indispensable to the team.
Konyushkov, at the beginning of last July, signed a three-season contract extension with his KHL club. He will only be able to join the Habs for the 2026-2027 season, when he will be 24 years old. The defenseman also received the ultimate honor with his Russian club as he was named captain.
At just 20 years old, it goes to say that he already has the maturity of a veteran.
Imagine the progress he will have made in three years playing with men and being a leader in the second-best league in the world!
