Now that Jeff Gorton is an official member of the Montreal Canadiens, several rumors have been circulating for a few days. Some think that the new executive vice president, hockey operations could dip into his former team to improve the Montreal Canadiens.

We have heard several names circulating in the last few days, including Ben Chiarot and Vitali Kravtsov.

However, Grant McCagg, a former NHL scout, has raised the possibility of a VERY crazy deal including Alexis Lafreniere and Tyler Toffoli. Yes, you read that right.

The Rangers are currently seventh in the NHL with 14 wins in 21 games. They already have several big names in their current lineup, including Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad. Could they be tempted to trade some of the organization's younger players to add depth to their offense, in hopes of making a run in the playoffs?

Of course, yes! However, I would be EXTREMELY surprised if they traded Lafreniere, the first pick in the 2020 draft, for Tyler Toffoli. I'm not taking anything away from #73, but Lafreniere has a bright future in the NHL, despite a slow start to his NHL career. I don't think the Rangers would do that.

However, Habs fans have a right to dream. After all, who wouldn't have dreamed of the Habs drafting Lafreniere last year? Very few people.
