As the Montreal Canadiens' training camp gets closer and closer, there is still (at least) one big file on general manager Kent Hughes' desk.
He still has to sign his new young center, acquired in the 2022 draft, Kirby Dach.
On that subject, as reported by our colleagues at Fanadiens.com, an unnamed NHL general manager reportedly revealed some very interesting information to reporter Jimmy Murphy (of Montreal Hockey Now).
According to what he reports, Kirby Dach's next contract with the Montreal Canadiens would be around $1.7 million per year for two years.
Wow, if this is confirmed, that would be quite a steal and big for the Habs.
Remember that in any case, no matter how much Dach signs, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have to move, because there is no room on the team's payroll right now.
It will be really interesting to watch and more details will follow!
One thing is for sure, if a player like Kirby Dach signs for two years and 1.7 million per year, a certain Jesperi Kotkaniemi will be laughing out loud, as he signed for almost 40 million dollars over 8 years with the same production as Dach.
