Last spring, Claude Giroux came close to a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, but they couldn't get the job done against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Following this failure, the forward is reportedly looking to test the free agent market to find a new contender with whom he can win a Stanley Cup.
One team that has emerged as a possible landing spot is the Edmonton Oilers. Giroux would give them another solid top-nine forward who can fit in at either wing or center.
The Oilers made it to the Western Conference Finals, but ended up losing in four games to the eventual Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche. Perhaps Giroux could give the team some much needed depth to push them to the next level?
In addition to giving the club depth, Giroux could alleviate the possible loss of forward Evander Kane. The latter is still in grievance with the San Jose Sharks and his future is unclear to say the least. His loss would be huge, as he had a great end to the season and a great playoff run with the Oilers. Giroux could limit the damage of the loss of the NHL's most beloved player.
